My roommate and I have been so excited for restaurant week for about two months. We went to Fogo de Chao on 1337 Chestnut Street last night. $35.00 for the salad bar buffet, bread and side dishes, 7 different types of all you can eat meat: Picanha, Alcatra, Fraldinha, Cordeiro, Lombo, Frango, Linguiça and finally, a piece of the cheesecake, chocolate mousse or Key Lime Pie. If you’re never been to a Brazilian Steak house, you need to go! Fogo de Chao has a great atmosphere for a date and dinner with old or new friends. My roommate and I showed up around 5:3o and didn’t leave until 7:30. The green card on the table is reversible. The green means to keep on bringing different types of meat over to the table and when you flip it over, the card is red. The red card means stop the meat for now.
The men are circling around tables with different types of silver metal skewers of meat looking for the green card. After a few minutes of meat circling around the table, your plate starts to get extremely full and yummy.
Time flies by because there’s so much action going on all around the restaurant. The waiters are extremely attentive and nice. I would recommend not getting too much at the salad bar before eating your main entree: the meat. My roommate asked the waiter during the end of our dinner, “What was the longest time frame that people stayed for dinner?” He responded, “5 hours. They were European. Normally, people stay for about 2.5 hours.” That’s a long time period for dinner! When you go to Fogo de Chao, make sure you make dinner your main priority for your evening. Above is a picture of all the different types of meat, bread and dishes (carmelized banana, corn bread and mashed potatoes) on my table. The bread was an amazing Brazilian Cheese Bread (Pão de Queijo). If you’re ever in Philadelphia, you need to go to Fogo de Chao! It’s definitely worth the trip!
