Indian Food: New Delhi

I’ve been wanting to try Indian food for a couple of months and last night I finally had Indian food for the first time. My roommate loves Indian food and suggested that we should go to an Indian buffet called New Delhi on 4004 Chestnut Street. I liked going New Delhi because the atmosphere was laid back and casual. There were a lot of college students having a quick dinner before going out for the evening. The front windows/ doors were open so we could have sat outside, but we chose to sit inside in the back near the buffet. Walking back to our table, I noticed a table full of guys. I looked at their food and they really took the buffet seriously because they had about 10 full plates piled with food. The one plate had at least 50 pieces of bread on it. The buffet was $11.95 and included: lamb, chicken and vegetarian options with bread, basmati rice, salad bar and chocolate pudding, ice cream or Pun-Jab (an Indian treat) for dessert. I enjoyed our waiter, he was nice and wasn’t constantly hovering over our table. He was prompt when we needed more water for our table.

I wasn’t a big fan of many of the food items shown above in the pictures. I really enjoyed the bread, basmati rice. some kind of vegetable dumpling and chicken. All of the food shown above reminded me of a thanksgiving buffet style dinner.

Here’s a picture showing what I actually ate. The bread was to die for! So incredibly good. I’m sure I had about 6 pieces of bread. I liked the basmati rice, but I wasn’t really a fan of the vegetable fried dumpling and the chicken. Maybe it’s an acquired taste. Overall, I really enjoyed trying Indian food. I liked the new experience, taste and people I encountered! If you’re ever in the Philadelphia area, you should definitely try New Delhi. It’s a good buffet with good people.

  1. Wow, your younger daughter is no less than an amazing gift to this world. Every time you write about her, I feel like I just want to go hang out with her – if only for a few hours – to just absorb her energy and let it infiltrate my life. How wise she is! I have been reading your blog for a few months now, and this is by far one of my favorites. Thank you for being willing to share your family with me and for making me see my life and family in a different way.

  2. Good day! I could have sworn I’ve been to this blog before but after checking through some of the post I realized it’s new to me.
Anyways, I’m definitely glad I found it and I’ll be book-marking and
    checking back frequently!
